Conservation Areas

For those dwellings on the estate that fall within the conservation area, special planning conditions apply. Please refer to the local planning Guidance Notes relating to conservation areas when considering any alterations or additions to your house.

Article 4 Directions

Article 4 Directions have now come into force and apply to all of the original houses on Abbotswood, including the bungalows. In general terms, this means that householders will need to apply for planning permission for any alterations which will alter the external appearance of the property as seen from the road, including replacing windows. Fortunately, any planning application resulting from the imposition of Article 4 Directions is free of charge. If you have any doubts about the need for a planning application, please consult the local planning department.

It should be noted however that all trees within the conservation area are protected. Any proposals to fell or prune trees with a girth of 75mm or more will required notice to the local planning authority. For further information please use the links provided to the Conservation Area Guidance Notes. The annual pruning of fruit trees in accordance with good horticultural practice will not require notice.
