Conservation Areas

For those dwellings on the estate that fall within the conservation area, special planning conditions apply. Please refer to the local planning Guidance Notes relating to conservation areas when considering any alterations or additions to your house.

Article 4 Directions

Article 4 Directions apply to all of the original houses on Abbotswood, including the bungalows. In general terms, this means that householders will need to apply for planning permission for any alterations which will alter the external appearance of the property as seen from the road, including replacing windows or roof tiles. If you have any doubts about the need for a planning application, please consult the local planning department.

Trees in Conservation Areas

Trees covered by Tree Preservation Orders are shown on the plan of the estate on the home page and occur particularly in the gardens of No 15, 46, 37 and 37b. It should be noted however that all trees within the conservation area are protected. Any proposals to fell or prune trees, having a trunk 75mm or more in diameter measured 1.5 metres above the ground, will require a Tree Application to the local planning authority. For further information please use the links provided to the Conservation Area Guidance Notes. However, the annual pruning of fruit trees in accordance with good horticultural practice will not require notice.
